Metroid Dread, Far Cry 6, Hot Wheels Unleashed: the 3 video games of the week

How to revive a legend with Metroid Dread? How to lead a revolution with Far Cry 6? And how do you get back to childhood with Hot Wheels Unleashed? Here are the three video games we recommend this week.

This selection was made between the editorial staff of CNEWS and the editorial staff of Jeux Vidéo Magazine.

Metroid Dread

Accompanying the release of the OLED Switch on October 8, Metroid Dread immediately established itself as one of the best platform games of the year. We find Samus, the heroine of the franchise born in 1986 on the famous NES. Sent on a mission to a new planet, she quickly finds herself seen as the prey of deadly programmed machines. We then try to survive in a veritable maze of levels, while the aliens watch for the opportune moment to feast on your carcass.

Cleverly combining action and exploration, Metroid Dread is the excellent surprise that one would not necessarily expect at such a level of excellence. The game benefits from exemplary gameplay that gives an impression of constant fluidity, with powers and expertly constructed weaponry, to make you want to progress in this veritable labyrinth populated by aliens and murderous machines. A title that remains to be reserved for seasoned gamers, as the bosses will give you a hard time. As in the old days, it will be necessary to learn their movements by heart to succeed in destroying them. A new pearl on Switch.

Far cry 6

Ah Yara! Its beaches, its mountains, its jungle, its wild animals and these cohorts of soldiers at the boot of the dictator Anton Castillo … Yes, we were able to spend a few days under the Yara sun. A colorful, lively and inevitably explosive little break when it comes to Far Cry. Because, even if it is not without reminding us of the Just Cause series with this Latin episode, the FPS (shooting game) developed by Ubisoft has accustomed us over the episodes to spectacular clashes on foot but also on board. planes, helicopters, tanks or even now on horseback. Regulars of the series will not be lost with this sixth episode.

We have good news and less good news for them. The good one, this new Far Cry 6 respects the Far Cry spirit to the letter in a Central American atmosphere that feels good. Actor Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian) really does the bad guy job as the numerous cutscenes develop a revolutionary narrative with flowery and fun dialogue. The worst part is that Far Cry 6 undoubtedly respects this Far Cry spirit a little too to the letter. As much to say it, eye to eye, we do not go to Yara for the change of scenery, in terms of gameplay at least. No doubt more for the pleasure of having fun with a formula which, even if it does not change much, remains as effective as ever. Admittedly, it’s hard to get off the hook when we multiply the missions across a truly vast open world. So, yes, you always have to take bases, kill lots of bad guys, collect lots of items, hunt lots of animals… Are we having fun? Yes without a shadow of a doubt. So what more could you ask for?

Hot wheels Unleashed

We no longer present the Hot Wheels miniature cars which, since 1968, have been parked in children’s rooms (and among collectors). However, Mattel has chosen to give them new roads to conquer in the world of video games. While this is not the first appearance of these scale models on consoles, Hot Wheels Unleashed is billed as a nitro-boosted title for frenzied and fun racing.

It is also a good surprise. Because Mattel did not entrust this project to an obscure second-rate studio, but to Milestone, an Italian studio renowned for its many simulations of motorsport. And the know-how of the transalpine studio delivers a racing game whose graphic aspect does not have to be ashamed of the competition. Arcade style, with its controlled skids and crazy races on circuits giving pride of place to stunts, loops and twists, Hot Wheels Unleashed never leaves room for boredom. We also appreciate the particularly well-made circuit editor which allows young players as well as adults to give free rein to their imagination. A fun sandbox game. That’s all we ask of him.
