Meta Expands Community Notes Across US Platforms by April 7

Meta just announced that its fact-checking program on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads will end on April 7th. It’s making way for a new system called Community Notes.

This new system lets users add notes, rate facts, and give context to posts themselves. It’s been around since January. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, thinks it’s less biased than the old system.

Meta started testing Community Notes on March 18th. Back then, they said it wasn’t ready. But now, Joel Kaplan, Meta’s global policy chief, says Community Notes will roll out on all platforms this Monday. There won’t be any penalties with it.

In some countries, Meta still uses its old fact-checking system. But they plan to bring Community Notes to those places too.
