Leo Messi will be presented this coming Sunday as a new player for Inter Miami, a team that lives the worst streak in its history in its short career in Major League Soccer (MLS). The Argentine arrives in Florida together with Sergio Busquets and, perhaps, Jordi Alba and the franchise hope that with Leo the negative trend of the team will be reversed, bottom of the Eastern Conference.
Inter Miami accumulates ten consecutive games without winning in the MLS. They have not known victory since they beat the New England Revolution (2-1) on May 14 and after that victory came seven straight losses in the American league (Nashville, Orlando City, Montreal, NY Red Bulls, DC United, New England Revolution and Philadelphia Union).
Their last three clashes, against Austin, Columbus Crew and DC United, saved them with a draw, but these three points did not help them to leave last place in the Eastern Conference. Messi’s new team has achieved five victories in 21 games and barely has 18 pointsa number that only gets worse in the Colorado Rapids league, bottom of the Western Conference with 17.
This poor run of results in MLS has been somewhat alleviated with two wins amid so much disappointment. They went against Nashville and Birmingham in the US Open Cup, a tournament in which Inter Miami is classified for the semifinals, who will play a single game against Cincinnati on August 24. That same day, Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake will meet in the other semifinal.
