Merkel calls on Putin to promote dialogue with Ukraine in the Normandy Quartet

Merkel pide a Putin que promueva el diálogo con Ucrania en el Cuarteto de Normandía

The acting Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, has demanded that Russian President Vladimir Putin promote dialogue and negotiation with Ukraine in the Normandy Quartet, a diplomatic group in which France also participates, in order to implement the agreements from Minsk for a peaceful solution to the Donbas conflict.

The Chancellery has reported that Merkel "addressed the security situation in the vicinity and in eastern Ukraine" with President Putin, who has been asked to promote dialogue with Ukraine in order to activate the Minsk agreements, which despite having been signed in September 2014 and February 2015, have not led to the cessation of violence.

In another vein, Merkel has also transferred to President Putin the responsibility of the Government of Belarus in the current migration crisis that is taking place on the border of that country with Poland, making "use" of innocent people in a "hybrid attack on the European Union".

For its part, although the Kremlin has agreed with the German Chancellor of the need to achieve a prompt solution to this migration crisis, it has also defended the reestablishment of diplomatic contacts between the states of the European Union and Belarus to resolve this situation, reports the Russian news agency Sputnik.

With regard to Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, Putin has criticized the "destructive politics of Kiev" in relation to the conflict in Donbas, as well as the "destabilizing and dangerous character" that "provocative activity by the United States and several other NATO countries" has in the Black Sea.
