Mercadona has launched the online shopping service in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz). Orders will be prepared and sent to their customers from La Colmena (this is what the company calls the platforms for online service), which in this case is located in the Higuerón Sur area in Seville.
La Colmena de Sevilla has been operating since November in the center of Seville and has since spread to Huelva, now reaching the municipality of Jerez de la Frontera. The ZIP codes that have been included are 11401, 11402, 11403, 11404, 11405, 11406, 11407, 11408, 11591 and 11593; Mercadona has announced that they will be expanding soon.
In this way, all customers in this area can now make their purchase intuitively through the new website and app, allowing them to locate products through categories or using a search engine. The client will have photos of each product, with all the relevant information related to it.
This new model keeps the same rate as the previous service (€7.21/order) and expands the Delivery hours from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday in 2 hour increments from the day after placing the order. In addition, the customer can modify his purchase until the night of the day before delivery.
Investment of 25 million euros
This new distribution center has meant a total investment of 25 million euros (figure that includes the acquisition of the plot in public bidding) and, on a plot of 30,220 m2has an area of 9,938 m2 of which, 1,850 m2 are intended for fresh products, including a cold storage area for chilled and frozen products. Fresh products are received and prepared the same day they are delivered to the online customer, thus guaranteeing the highest quality and freshness.
Mercadona continues to grow in the online channel
At the end of 2022, the company forecast that they would exceed their sales in the online channel obtained in the previous year. So that the company expected to bill €530 million in 2022. This It would mean a rise of 4.3% compared to the €510 million of the previous year. This figure is related to ecommerce and teleshopping activity, while that obtained by hives stands at 257 million (+45%).
