The senior men’s national team will participate in the Volleyball Challenger, qualifying for the FIVB Nations League, which will be held from Friday to Sunday this week in Doha, Qatar.
The Dominican national team, led by Alexander Gutiérrez, arrived in Qatar on Wednesday and will debut against Turkey on Friday.
The team is made up of captain Henry Tapia, who plays opposite, as well as starters Héctor Alexis Cruz, Wilfredo Hernández, Luis David Reinoso, Henry López, Bryan Pepén and Bismal Rafael Almonte.
Also the center backs Moisés Alexander Ortiz and Luther Rosario, the opposite Gerson Ezequiel Toribio, the defender Juan de Jesús Hernández and the libero Enger Mieses.
Also part of the delegation are former players Dante Mañón and Amaury Martínez, assistant coach; the doctor César Andrés Báez and the physiotherapist Roberto Núñez.
The sextets from Chile, China, Thailand, Tunisia, Ukraine and Qatar will also compete in the fair.
Professor Nelson Ramírez, director of the Men’s National Teams Project, explained that the team qualified for this important tournament last year by winning the silver medal in an event organized by the Norceca Confederation in Cuba.
“Men’s volleyball in the Dominican Republic is at a good moment and we hope to continue improving for the next events we have on the agenda, such as the Pan American Games in Chile,” said Professor Ramírez.
