Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy, is back in the spotlight. This time, however, it’s about his partner, the journalist Andrea Giambruno, who after some comments then became involved in a controversy a case of gang rape in PalermoDespite declaring that he used “very precise words”, he was unable to stem a wave of criticism directed at him, particularly in the Italian political arena.
According to the newspaper La Repubblica, the journalist said so “If you avoid getting drunk and passing out (when partying), you also avoid problems because otherwise you’ll find yourself in the wolf’s mouth.” He also branded the perpetrators of the rape as “beasts” during a broadcast of the program “Diario del Día” on the Mediaset-run channel Rete 4. His words are created in the context of a gang rape of a 19-year-old girl in Palermo last July by seven suspects, one a minor, who got her drunk and took turns raping her in a remote part of town. But he had to step out to clarify his words. “Anyone who has misrepresented what I said is doing so in bad faith or because they have serious understanding problems,” he said.
As a result, his statements unnerved Italian politicians. So said Democratic Party Senator Cecilia D’Elia, who is currently vice president of the Femicide Commission of Inquiry “I can’t help but blame the women.” For her part, the secretary of the PD, Chiara Braga, has asked Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Giambruno’s partner, to do so “Stay away from those words“, according to the newspaper ‘Corriere della Sera’.
It’s not the first controversy involving Giambruno, who was branded a climate denier after speaking out about a heatwave that hit Italy in July. “This is not news,” he said. In fact, the journalist also took issue with German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, who questioned the appropriateness of traveling to certain parts of southern Europe due to time constraints. “Stay in the Black Forest,” he snapped.
