Melky Cabrera gave the golden hit to defeat Licey in Quisqueya

With an RBI single by Melky Cabrera in the eighth, which broke a scoreless tie, the Águilas Cibaeñas shut out the Tigres del Licey 1-0 at the Quisqueya Stadium, consolidating themselves in the first position of the Dominican Republic Winter Baseball Championship.

With that victory, the national and Caribbean Series champions swept the two-game miniseries held Friday and Saturday between the two great rivals of Dominican baseball. It was the sixth loss in a row for Licey and the second in two games this year against the Eagles. Five harrier pitchers, led by left-hander José Quintana, combined to deliver a seven-hit shutout for the Blues. Left-handers Steve Moyers, for the Tigers and Quintana, had a beautiful duel in the first five innings in which neither allowed any touchdowns. The game continued scoreless until the eighth. In addition to Quintana, Bautista (6), Luis Felipe Castillo (8) and Féliz (9) paraded through the mound. For Licey, in addition to Moyers who worked 5 innings in which he allowed 5 hits without transfers and four strikeouts, Antonio Santos (6), González Germen (7), Aaron Barrett (8), Ulises Joaquín (8) and Jairo Asencio ( 9).
