Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramodwinai met Myanmar’s imprisoned pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. They met in the capital Naypyidaw prison on Sunday. News from AFP.
The meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has started in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. Myanmar is one of the members of this alliance. Wednesday was the meeting of foreign ministers of these allied countries. In a press conference before the start of the meeting, Pramodwinai said, “We had a meeting.” He is in good health and the meeting was excellent. Pramodwina is the first person to meet the post-coup jailed Suu Kyi. The junta has not allowed anyone but its own people to meet Suu Kyi since her imprisonment. Not even with the lawyers who are fighting for Suu Kyi. They could talk to Suu Kyi via video call outside the court.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Suu Kyi said in a meeting with me that she wants to start a dialogue with Myanmar’s military leadership. I told him that Thailand and ASEAN countries are interested in helping him in this regard.
