Meet the Unsung Hero: Sevilla’s Hidden Gem Star Steals the Show

Sevilla’s Midfielder Djibril Sow Ready to Start New Preseason After Injury and Unsettling First Year

A Fractured Metatarsal and Missed European Championship Marked a Disappointing First Season

Djibril Sow’s season with Sevilla came to an abrupt end in April after a fracture in his fifth metatarsal forced him to undergo surgery, also missing the European Championship with Switzerland. The midfielder’s first year in Nervión was marked by changes in coach and style of play, and despite being the club’s biggest summer signing, he failed to showcase his best football.

New Coach, New Opportunities

With the injury behind him and a new coach on the bench, Sow is looking to adapt his game to the profile of the player he has always been – an interior midfielder capable of overcoming lines and combining effectively with his teammates. His perfect link play could be just what Sevilla needs to bring their game idea to fruition.

Full of Energy and Motivated

Sow has started preseason training with his teammates without any discomfort in his injured area, after a vacation where he did not stop working to arrive in the best possible condition. He is eager to put his disappointing first year behind him and make a fresh start. In a social media post, he wrote: "It’s a great feeling to be back on the pitch with the team after three months of recovery. Full of energy for what’s coming."

Manager Victor Orta Working on Two Midfield Signings

Meanwhile, Sevilla’s sporting director, Victor Orta, is working on a minimum of two midfield signings, with Sambi Lokonga and Ilaix Moriba reportedly close to joining. Agoumé is also not being forgotten, as the club seeks to build a new midfield with physicality and footballing ability. Sow, who was not a signing and struggled with his performance in his first year, is considered a key player by the sporting director and coach. As he begins his trial with Sevilla, the midfielder is determined to prove himself.
