The entertainment world is reeling from a heartbreaking tragedy. Three beloved members of the Putman family, known to many from their reality TV show, have died in a recent car accident. The news hit fans hard, spreading quickly through a statement shared by the family.
"It is with heavy hearts that we ask for your prayers," the Putman family shared on their @GrowingUpPutmans Instagram account this past Saturday, September 27. The message announced the passing of "Papa," "Neenee," and "Aunt Megan." These loving nicknames referred to the family’s grandparents, Bill and Barb Putman, and their daughter-in-law, Megan. The family’s statement concluded with a poignant note: "They have gone home to be with the Lord."
The tragic accident also left other family members injured. The family’s Instagram update asked for continued prayers for "Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia," all of whom are currently in the hospital. Their message included a plea for "complete healing and strength" for each of them as they recover.
Many remember the Putmans from their time on TLC. Their show, Meet the Putmans, aired in 2017. It gave viewers a peek into the unique lives of Bill and Barb’s huge multi-generational family, with 25 people all living under one roof. The docuseries later found new life as Growing Up Putman, which streamed on YouTube in 2021. For those who followed their journey, Bill and Barb were parents to four children: Billy, Brandon, Blake, and Blair. Their children are married to Jen, Casey, Megan, and Jamie, respectively.
The loss of Megan is especially tough for her husband, Blake. Blake, who is Bill and Barb’s son and was also injured in the accident, had been married to Megan for 18 years. Together, they shared three children: Lulu, Alena, and Noah, who are also among those recovering in the hospital.
Through their profound grief, the Putman family has held onto their strong faith. The Saturday statement emphasized, "Our entire family… we all declare that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior." They expressed a sense of peace even in their pain, adding, "He is our hope, our peace, and our salvation. Even in this time of sorrow, we rest knowing that God is in control."
They also shared their belief in life beyond this world, stating, "We know that Papa, Neenee, and Aunt Megan have not truly left us forever. They are alive and whole in heaven, standing before Jesus, hearing the words we all long to hear: ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.’" The Putmans continue to ask for "continuous prayers" for Blake and his children as they heal from their injuries.
"Please keep praying for our whole family as we walk through this deep loss," the family’s message read. They conveyed an unwavering spirit, saying, "Even in this valley, we will praise Him. We trust that His plan is perfect and that one day we will reunite in heaven. Thank you for every prayer, message, and act of love. Your support means more than words can say." The family ended their heartfelt message by asking for ongoing prayers "so that our hearts remain fixed on the truth that Jesus conquered death so that we could have eternal life."
The Putmans always stayed connected with their fans, even after their shows wrapped up. They kept sharing glimpses into their lives on social media. Just four days before the tragic accident, Barb, ever the loving wife, celebrated her husband Bill’s birthday with a sweet message.
On Tuesday, September 23, Barb posted on Instagram, "Happy Birthday to my amazing husband! Bill, welcome to our Medicare years," she joked, adding a touch of lightheartedness to her loving tribute. She poured out her heart, calling Bill "a true blessing to me and our family." Barb praised him as a daily inspiration, admiring his "strength, wisdom, and determination." She highlighted his unconditional love, saying he was "always constant, even despite our flaws." Her message went on to describe him as a "great gift" as a dad and grandpa, calling him "our refuge, our inspiration, and our encouragement." She concluded by stating, "You are leaving a legacy for our children and grandchildren that they will carry with them forever.” This touching post now serves as a poignant reminder of the love that remains, even in the face of such profound loss.
