"House of the Dragon" Casts New Dragon Riders: Who Are They?
What You Need to Know:
To win the war, Rhaenyra Targaryen will need more allies and these three characters will be the new riders in ‘House of the Dragon.’
The Second Season of "House of the Dragon" is Heating Up
The second season of "House of the Dragon" is turning out to be a real nail-biter, particularly since we’ve already seen strong clashes between the black and green sides. However, at least from what we’ve seen in the fifth episode, things are getting tough for Rhaenyra Targaryen and her allies.
SPOILER ALERT!
We warn you right away that from here on there will be spoilers. If you haven’t seen this episode of the series yet, so you are warned. After the death of Rhaenys Targaryen and her dragon Meleys, Rhaenyra and her son Jacaerys Velaryon realize that their only hope of winning this war is to get more dragons to join the conflict.
Rhaenyra Targaryen and the Blacks are Looking for New Recruits
In the times in which it takes place "House of the Dragon," there are several riderless dragons on Dragonstone, including Vermithor, Silverwing, and Seasmoke, which was Laenor Velaryon’s dragon. However, it is known that these creatures need someone to ride them to be of any use in a war such as the one currently underway, although not just anyone can do this.
Riders Must Be Descendants or Have Blood of the Ancient Dragon Lords of Valyria
Riders must be descendants or have blood of the ancient dragon lords of Valyria to successfully tame a dragon. At this point in the story, Rhaenyra Targaryen’s list of potential recruits is very short, as her other children and dragons are very young. As if that weren’t enough, the most obvious candidate to join her cause, Rhaena, was nearly killed during her previous attempts at taming dragons.
These Are the Characters Who Will Become Dragon Riders in "House of the Dragon"
So who could Rhaenyra and the Blacks enlist? Well, in the fifth episode of "House of the Dragon," Jace reminds his mother that the Targaryens have married into other houses, meaning there are people who have their blood even if they don’t have the same last name.
Addam Velaryon
Like Ulf and Hugh, Addam of Hull or Adam Velaryon (Clinton Liberty) is another character that we have seen little of in this second season of "House of the Dragon." However, it seems that their role is about to become more important in this conflict. As you may remember, in the fourth episode, it was confirmed that his brother Alyn was the bastard son of Corlys Velaryon…just as you read it.
Hugh the Blacksmith
However, things don’t turn out wonderfully for Rhaenyra Targaryen after trusting Hugh the Blacksmith because the thirst for power, ambition, and trying to get what he had never had before lead him to have attitudes and movements that practically go against the "legitimate heir to the Iron Throne" (Here we tell you about its relevance in the plot).
Ulf White
Ulf White, the brother of Hugh, also plays a crucial role in this conflict. However, things will get complicated for this character now that Aemond Targaryen ordered the city gates to be closed.
Rhaenyra Targaryen’s New Allies
It was such a feat that after seeing this, Corlys Velaryon decides to recognize Addam. But not only that, both the leader of House Velaryon and Jacaerys ask Rhaenyra Targaryen to knight him, which she agrees to. And to the surprise of the vast majority, he ends up being a very strong and important ally for the black side to gain entry to Kings’ Landing to claim the Iron Throne.
Only Time Will Tell How They Will Adapt the Story of This Character in "House of the Dragon"
However, it only remains to be seen how they will adapt the story of this character in "House of the Dragon." However, everything indicates that it will be practically the same as what George RR Martin wrote in "Fire & Blood," Well, in the second episode of the second season of the series, there is a scene where Seasmoke spins over Addam’s head, implying that he will become his rider and one of the most imposing in Westeros.
