MediaTek just unveiled its latest chip, the Dimensity 8450. This powerful processor is designed to boost gaming and AI performance on smartphones. At the India Dimensity Summit, several major brands like OPPO, vivo, and Samsung showed their support for the new chip.
The Dimensity 8450 is built using 4-nanometer technology and features an 8-core ARM Cortex-A725 CPU. This All-Big-Core design means all cores have high performance capabilities. Here’s a breakdown of the cores:
- 1 core runs at 3.25 GHz with a 1 MB L2 cache
- 3 cores run at 3.0 GHz with a 512 KB L2 cache
- 4 cores run at 2.1 GHz with a 256 KB L2 cache
The chip also has a 6 MB L3 cache and a 5 MB system cache. For graphics, it uses a Mali-G720 MC7 GPU with a 1.3 GHz clock speed.
For AI processing, the Dimensity 8450 has a dedicated NPU 880 chip and Agentic AI engine. This supports Generative AI and LLM, allowing for more efficient AI processing. The chip can record 4K HDR video at 60 frames per second and has a Dual EIS engine to reduce camera shake. It also features a Live Broadcast Booster, which reduces power consumption during live streaming by 7%.
The Imagiq 1080 image signal processor supports up to 320 million pixel sensors, QPD Remosaic zoom, and 100% PDAF focus. It can also handle WQHD+ displays with a 144 Hz refresh rate. For gaming, the HyperEngine MAGT 3.0 engine improves touch response and 5G-Wi-Fi switching. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and LPDDR5X RAM.
The first phone to feature the Dimensity 8450 will be the OPPO Reno 14 Pro, which is set to launch in India soon.
