Measures for violence against former Peruvian prime minister exclude removal

The protection measures for sexist violence against former Peruvian Prime Minister Guido Bellido issued in favor of Deputy Patricia Chirinos do not include a restraining order, as Efe reported by mistake on October 6.

Judge Virginia Arroyo, of the fifteenth Family Court Specialized in Violence Against Women, granted protection measures in favor of Chirinos, an opposition deputy, who denounced Bellido, then prime minister, for psychological violence in a car that was published in That date.

However, it did not include in its resolution the restraining measure and the prohibition that Bellido could access the victim’s place of work or study, which she had expressly requested in her request to the Justice.

In its information, Efe misinterpreted the court decision and erroneously assumed that the granting of protection measures in favor of Chirinos included all the extremes requested by the opposition deputy.

"That they rape you"

The parliamentarian, from the right-wing Avanza País party, denounced Bellido for having directed her "phrases intended to humiliate, embarrass, and insult her", which on several occasions was categorically denied by Bellido.

The events took place months ago at a meeting of the Parliament’s board of directors, when, according to Chirinos’ statement, she asked to be appointed to the same office that her father, former Congressman Enrique Chirinos, used.

"Go get married", allegedly answered Bellido, according to the version of Chirinos, who replied that she has been a woman "single, married, divorced and now widowed".

"Now you just need to be raped", finished off the prime minister and also a congressman from the ruling socialist party Peru Libre, always according to Chirinos’ account.

The court resolution expressly prohibits Bellido from exercising any type of psychological violence on the victim in the sphere "public or private", low "warning of being criminally denounced for disobedience and resistance to the judicial authority".

In addition, Bellido must undergo a psychological evaluation and is obliged to undergo therapy at the health center closest to his home and report the result to the court.

Although at first Bellido had threatened to denounce Chirinos for defamation if he did not retract his accusation, the parliamentarian desisted from taking any legal action against the parliamentarian.

In fact, on several occasions Bellido has also expressed his apologies for expressions "improper and even disrespectful" towards women that he issued in the past.

Bellido, from the most leftist sector of the Peru Libre party, was removed from office precisely on the 6th by President Pedro Castillo, who appointed lawyer Mirtha Vásquez as President of the Council of Ministers.
