McDonald’s to accept Bitcoin and Tether in Swiss city

Multinational fast food chain McDonald’s has reportedly begun adopting Bitcoin and Tether as a payment method in Lugano. Lugano is a Switzerland near the Italian border with nearly 64,000 inhabitants, which looks set to become a hotspot for crypto adoption.

In addition to Bitcoin, Tether payments are also possible

In a video posted on Twitter shared is shows that food can be ordered on the digital payment terminal at McDonalds and then paid with Bitcoin via a mobile app. The Tether logo (USDT) would also be seen next to the Bitcoin symbol, which is not surprising given that the city of Lugano announced in March 2022 that it would accept Bitcoin, Tether and the LVGA token as legal tender.

In March of this year, the Swiss city signed another Memorandum of Understanding with Tether Operations Limited, launching the so-called ‘Plan B’.

Tether has reportedly created 2 funds under this plan, a 100 million Swiss franc investment pool for crypto startups and a 3 million Swiss franc fund to encourage crypto adoption for shops and businesses.

Also, Lugano will make it possible for local residents to pay their taxes with crypto. However, the crypto project will be extended to the payment of parking tickets, public services and the payment of tuition fees for students. It is not known when exactly this will be expanded, no exact date has been given for this.
