Chas McCormick, Kyle Tucker and Jeremy Pena homered and combined to drive in six runs for the Houston Astros, who snapped a three-game skid with an 8-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night.
McCormick hit a two-run homer in the second inning off Eduardo Rodriguez (0-2) and added a double in the fourth.
Tucker homered for the second straight game, with no men on base in the fourth inning, to prevent the Astros from being swept in the three-game series. He added an RBI double in a seventh inning in which Houston scored twice to make their lead more comfortable.
Last year’s World Series MVP Peña hit a two-run homer off Tyler Alexander. It was his first stick from four corners in the fourth inning.
His two-out shot in the eighth inning made it 8-2.
Dominican Cristian Javier (1-0) allowed five hits and a run in six innings, during which he struck out five, to earn the victory.
For the Tigers, Puerto Rican Javier Báez 1-0.
For the Astros, the Dominican Peña 5-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Cubans Yordan Álvarez 2-1 with an RBI, José Abreu 4-1. The Mexican César Salazar 4-0.
