Kylian Mbappé is keeping Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid in suspense about his future, without having yet announced his decision on whether he will stay with the French club or join the Spanish team on a free transfer this summer.
As The Athletic reported, the French striker had shown some inclination to move to Real Madrid. However, influential members of his circle are not completely convinced by the Spanish club’s offer, which is delaying the decision-making process.
Mbappé has doubts about Real Madrid’s offer
Mbappé has known since the beginning of January what conditions Real Madrid are willing to offer him. Although Madrid’s proposal was lower than that presented in previous negotiations in May 2022, it would still make Mbappé the team’s highest-paid player.
In contrast, Paris Saint-Germain have offered the player various options for his continuity, including short-term and long-term contracts, while maintaining his current salary at the French club, which according to sources is €75 million after taxes, before bonuses.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez was actively involved in the negotiations and was the main promoter of the Spanish club’s latest offer. Pérez has tried to convince Mbappé that a move to Madrid would improve his sporting and commercial profile, but final confirmation from the French player is still pending.
Talks between Madrid and Mbappé’s representatives intensified in early January, with the White club expressing their desire to resolve the situation before the middle of the month to avoid an extension like the one in May 2022.
