Mayor and Saviola visit children’s project in Capotillo

The mayoress of the National District, Carolina Mejía, and the soccer player Javier Saviola, took a tour of El Túnel de Capotillo, to visit the children who are part of the project developed by Save the Children and the FC Barcelona Foundation, with the support of Scotiabank, and that seeks to have a positive impact on the lives of children in the area, through sports.

The project “Education and Protection through Sport: Playing for Inclusion” aims to strengthen cohesion and social inclusion through sport, impacting the lives of more than 1,600 boys, girls, adolescents and young people in vulnerable situations. .

Carolina Mejía shared this Friday afternoon with the boys and girls who are in the 3rd grade at the El Túnel school. There, the mayoress together with Javier, Juan Tomás Díaz, president of Save the Children, Marta Segú, director of the Futbol Club Barcelona Foundation, and Liz Mieses, president of the Council of Aldermen, spoke with the children about their sports preferences and care for the environment to live in a better environment.

“Dr. Marta, (Marta Segú) who loves us very much, why what do the doctors do? They take care of people, so the doctor told me, I want to take care of the children of Capotillo, so that they have good health, be good athletes, good professionals, so you have to take care of yourself, taking care of the environment, which means, very simply, taking care of where you throw your garbage, so we’re going to work on that too,” said Carolina while talking to the children.

The infants expressed their desire to hold a tournament when the field that is right next to the school and that is carried out by the Ministry of Sport is finished.

The player of the soccer team, FC Barcelona, ​​motivated the children to play some sport and put love and commitment to everything they want to achieve, so that in the future, if they make an effort, they can see their dreams come true.

During the tour, it was possible to observe the progress of the work on, beautification, renovation and placement of water pipes in El Túnel, carried out by the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (Caasd).

The program seeks to promote the creation of safe, healthy and inclusive environments for children and adolescents in vulnerable situations, prioritizing education and protection through sports and physical activity as key mechanisms for development, integration, equality and the diversity.

This initiative contemplates environmental sanitation to improve the conditions of the environments where children live and play with green brigades formed by themselves.

In addition, it promotes the values ​​of tolerance, gender equality and respect, integrating the community, families, authorities and private entities, as well as boys and girls from other sectors and social strata, promoting awareness, social mobilization and cooperation between actors to favor of children in vulnerable situations.
