The volleyball courts in Lisbon are about to get a fresh injection of talent. Benfica’s women’s team has officially brought in Mayara Barcelos. The Brazilian outside hitter, just 24 years old, recently put pen to paper. She joins the Eagles after a stint with Osasco/São Cristóvão Saúde back in her home country. Her deal is set for one season, aiming to bolster the squad.
Barcelos spoke to the club’s media, clearly thrilled about her new challenge. “Joining Benfica is a very big achievement for me,” she explained. “I am extremely happy to be part of this glorious and victorious team.” She already has her sights set on the season ahead. “I hope this season will be incredible, full of great victories,” she shared. “We aim to stick to our plan and win everything we can.” When asked about her best quality on the court, she didn’t hesitate. “My main strength is attacking,” Barcelos noted. “I hope to help the team with attacking, passing… helping the team in the best way possible.”
Barcelos also had a message for the Benfica faithful. She promised the Eagles’ supporters her absolute best on the court. “You can expect the best from me,” she told them directly. “I am here for whatever you need.” Her eagerness to connect with the fanbase is clear. “I am very eager to see this beautiful ‘torcida’,” she concluded, ready to feel the energy of the fans.
