Mauro Icardi is not one to hide his feelings. The 32-year-old Argentine forward, playing for Galatasaray, reportedly cheered loudly following the news of José Mourinho’s recent dismissal. It seems Icardi and the “Special One” have a bit of a history, a running feud that goes back some months.
Their rivalry truly heated up back in February. That’s when Mourinho made a sly remark, labeling Icardi the “GOAT.” It was a clever play on words, hinting at “Greatest Of All Time” while also calling him a goat, as in the animal. From that moment, Icardi apparently set his sights on a chance to get even.
He certainly took his opportunities. Just a while back, Icardi made headlines by celebrating Benfica’s 1-0 victory over Fenerbahçe. He posted a photo of himself with Kerem Aktürkoglu, who scored the winning goal for Benfica. The two had been teammates at Galatasaray, sharing the locker room for some time. Icardi’s message was clear then, and it’s even clearer now.
On Friday, Icardi truly let loose with his celebration of Mourinho’s departure. He shared an image of himself hoisting his current coach, Okan Buruk, into the air. Buruk is the man leading Galatasaray, and he has faced off against Mourinho many times, often in direct confrontation. It looks like Icardi was celebrating a victory for his coach, and perhaps a personal one too.
