She cooked for famous people, catered film sets, and created special picnic boxes. She even organized dinners for influencers and baked wedding cakes. For Katherine, cooking is not just a job. A Broadway Romance: How Katherine and David Met
Katherine’s love story with David started like a scene from a movie. In 2010, she went to see Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights on Broadway with her parents. David, her future husband, was one of the actors in the show. In a 2018 interview with Inside Edition, Katherine recalled a sweet moment. She drew a heart next to David’s photo in the program. Her father encouraged her to meet the cast after the show. She saw In the Heights many more times before moving to Los Angeles. "Who would have thought that seven years ago," Katherine said in 2018, "when we saw that show and got tickets on a whim… that would be the guy you’d marry and have kids with?"
Years later, fate intervened. Katherine unexpectedly met David again at a party in Los Angeles. She was talking to friends about her love for In the Heights. When he mentioned being from the show, she wondered, "Could it be David Del Rio?" Katherine bravely asked him to sing a song from the musical right there. She even corrected him when he forgot a lyric. "Now, knowing him, I’m sure he hated this," she admitted. "He’s not that kind of show-off person." They started dating, and David later popped the question. He proposed at New York City’s historic Richard Rodgers Theatre while they were seeing Hamilton. "But as soon as I started talking, we got to the stage door, and I started forgetting everything I was going to say, except the question." The couple exchanged vows in a beautiful destination wedding in Mexico in April 2018.
Building a Family and a Business Together
Katherine and David also built a shared dream: their own production company, Theatre Row. They started it in Austin, Texas, in 2020. This was while David was filming ABC’s romantic comedy, The Baker and the Beauty. Katherine told Voyage Austin in June 2023 about its beginnings. "I founded the company with my brilliant husband while we were living in Puerto Rico," she said. This was during David’s six-month shoot for The Baker and the Beauty. As actors, they are always moving for work. So, they decided to set up their production company in both Austin and Los Angeles.
Starting Theatre Row helped both of them feel more secure in Hollywood. "Our company has produced a feature film," Katherine noted. "We’ve sold a television show and been hired to write several screenplays." They are also working on many independent projects. Having more control over her career feels powerful to her. She doesn’t have to just wait for opportunities. "Don’t get me wrong," she added, "as a screenwriter and producer, there’s still a lot of waiting." But she feels good always working on something new.
Beyond their shared business, Katherine and David are proud parents. They welcomed their first daughter, Lilia, in July 2023. Katherine shared on Instagram that their lives "had changed forever." She wrote about Lilia’s birth on June 20, a day with record-hot temperatures in Austin, Texas. "Our perfect Lilia was born after 27 hours of labor," she shared. "Life has been a blurry, sleepless bliss ever since." Their "little summer solstice baby has surprised [them] in every way." She admitted, "We had no idea what to expect… but WOW, it exceeds expectations." Katherine added, "There will never be enough words to express how much we love her." It was an honor to introduce "Lilliam Kellie Wallace Del Río III."
In March 2025, Katherine and David announced more happy news. Lilia had become a big sister. Their second daughter, Coco, arrived. Katherine joyfully shared that "Coco Del Rio arrived with a smile on January 20." This happened "right in the middle of a winter storm."
