River Plate striker Matías Suárez will undergo surgery next Tuesday for chronic synovitis in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the Professional League.
The Cordovan underwent medical studies this Thursday at the Rossi Center after not being able to train normally in recent days and as the kinesic treatment no longer works, they will do an internal cleaning of the knee, according to club sources told Télam.
Suárez will have to undergo what is known in sports medicine as a “surgical toilet”, which is a deep cleaning of the joint to prevent the accumulation of fluid from appearing chronically.
The intervention was a possibility that had been evaluated for a month after the last stop in this semester, in which he could only play 744 minutes in 12 games, which represents 43 percent of the minutes that the team played in 19 games between all competitions. In this way, they trust River’s technical and medical staff, Suárez will be able to have a good summer preseason and have a 2022 with greater continuity.
The injury to Suárez’s right knee dates from a wear and tear that began to develop in August 2012 when he was at Anderlecht in Belgium, which caused problems in the patellar tendon and even surgery on the patella.
That injury caused him to lose a transfer to CSKA of Russia in 11 million euros and later, in October 2013, with a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and the following year with the same injury.
The three operations in three consecutive seasons caused him discomfort and pain in his knee since then, which with the passage of time was increasing. For that reason, he could barely play 40 minutes in the last six games.
