Olympic silver medalist Mathias Flückiger was provisionally suspended for a doping case ahead of his participation in a mountain bike race at the European Championships on Friday.
The Swiss Cycling Federation reported that Flückiger tested positive for the anabolic agent zeranol at national championships in June. Zeranol is approved for use in agriculture in some countries to promote growth in livestock.
Flückiger, who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year, was in Munich for the event when his provisional suspension was announced on Thursday. His Olympic medal is not affected by the case.
The Swiss Cycling Federation said Swiss anti-doping authorities informed it earlier Thursday of the positive test in a blood sample taken on June 5.
Swiss Sport Integrity indicated that it is investigating the case and that it will not give more details until the disciplinary process is over.
Flückiger, 33, became world champion in the mountain bike team relay in 2019.
