Mateo: “We have made a great mental effort”

Chus Mateo, Real Madrid coach, highlighted the great mental effort of his players that allowed them to win this Tuesday at home against Red Star for 59-79 on a court where it is “very difficult” to do so and against a team on a roll that had won eight of its last ten Euroleague games.

“We knew it was going to be very difficult. of the last ten parties had won eight. I’m very happy. I think we have made a great mental effortunderstanding the game and the hardness very well, knowing that there would be moments of doubt ”, he explained in a statement provided by the white club.

“There have been in the third quarter but we have been together and in the end we have all contributed a lot: in it reboundthe defendingwe have been able to close the ring in the last quarter. Surely, that consistency and solidity that has given us being together has made us win the game”, he added.

Mateo explained that there was a time when they were not feeling comfortable in attack and when Red Star was scoring more easily “but we knew what the plan was, it was that they will not score us much near the basketbecause they are a very dangerous team in two-point shooting,” he said.

“We have conceded a little more on the perimeter but we have not hesitated in them and we have been able to close the rebound well in important moments, we have made them doubt in their attackand we’ve been pretty good sharing the ball again. Winning on this court is not easy. Winning any game away from home in the Euroleague is very difficult and even more so in this environment”, concluded the white coach.
