A hospital in Massachusetts is investigating after five nurses on the same floor developed brain tumors. The hospital says there’s no environmental risk.
The nurses work on the fifth floor of Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Eleven employees there have health problems. Five are nurses with brain tumors. Two have a kind of tumor that’s common.
The hospital did a study. They worked with government safety and health officials. They checked disposable masks, water, and X-ray machines. They didn’t find any links to the tumors.
The hospital says they’re sure there’s no environmental risk. But the Massachusetts Nurses Association wants the hospital to compensate the nurses. They’re doing their own study.
The association says the hospital only talked to a few nurses. Their environmental tests weren’t thorough. The hospital can’t make the problem go away with a prepared conclusion.
