Maserati debuts strongly

Max Gunther and Maserati arrive determined to make things difficult in Formula E. The runner-up from last 2021 (like Venturi) is already too small for them and they aspire to the top. The 25-year-old German driver led the times on the first day and, on a second day of testing at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, he did the same again. He has won first place and it will be necessary to see if on Friday, on a third and last day, someone manages to take the place from him. For now, full time and rest, because this Thursday there will be a rest in Cheste for the entire grid of the electric championship.

And the day has been long. The complicated and changing conditions of the track have not helped to improve the times of this past Tuesday and neither has the debut of the new era of the World Championship: the Gen3. The car, lighter and more powerful, has been seen on a somewhat modified Valencian layout and it has not been easy. Throughout the day, the drivers have suffered in driving: the entire grid has sweated to handle the car in certain sections of the circuit, saving a loss of control of the car at each pass. Without a doubt, there is much to learn from this new revolution that, after Valencia, will head to Mexico for the first race of the year (January 14). An appointment that, without a doubt, is exciting.

The second day of testing in Valencia was just as exciting because, in addition to the usual many qualifying sessions, the Gen3 has already been tested in its first race. Nothing scoring, just testing in a new car, in addition to already putting pressure on what the year may bring. And McLaren has taken the glory. Jake Hughes won the race, followed by Max Gunther with René Rast in third place. In addition, the Maserati driver took pole position in the ‘experimental’ classification held in the morning, although insignificant, since the start of the race was determined by the number of the race (Vandoorne started first when wearing the champion’s number, but finished eighth).

In addition, during this race, the FIA took the opportunity to test all the possible scenarios of a grand prix. Among them, and although there was no incident on the track, the Safety Car came on the scene on lap number 10. It hurt some drivers, with Wehrlein with his Porsche, but in a non-scoring test it will be necessary to see how many have saved their cards. The moment of truth will come in a month.
