Marvel Phase 5: Thanos will inevitably have to reappear to introduce Nova

Thanos knew his fate at the end ofAvengers: Endgame after serving as the main antagonist throughout the Infinity saga, but the Marvel cinematic universe may not be done with it, it will inevitably continue to influence phase 5.

The superhero genre has grown a lot over the past decade, the MCU has been a big part of that success. Its first three phases, known as Infinity saga, helped shape the genre as we know it today, and notably paved the way for the arrival of one of comic book antagonists, Thanos.

The presence of Mad Titan in the MCU and his role as the main antagonist were first announced in the post-credits Avengers scene, revealing that he was the originator of the Chitauri invasion led by Loki. (Tom Hiddleston), who was also responsible for recovering the Tesseract. It was introduced to the screen in Guardians of the Galaxy. After a brief appearance in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thanos has finally become the threat to be defeated in what was certainly the best opus of the entire saga, Avengers: Infinity War then Avengers: Endgame.

Thanos and his armies are finally defeated in Avengers: Endgame as the survivors travel back in time to obtain the Infinity Stones before he seizes them. Iron man (Robert Downey JR) will give his life using the Gauntlet before the Mad Titan can (re) do it. It is in this that the MCU must today draw on to continue to build, again and always with Thanos and in particular in Phase 5, since a film Nova would indeed be in preparation. To tell his story, the MCU should go back to Infinity war and the destruction of the Nova Corps, for which Thanos is responsible.

In the comics, the real name of Nova is Richard rider, a high school student chosen by Rhomann Dey, dying, to replace him at the Nova Corps. He is the only surviving member. Richard Rider was then given the uniform and powers of a Nova Centurion, although he had very little training, that didn’t stop him from becoming a superhero. Rhomann Dey has already been introduced to the MCU via the Guardians of the Galaxy (John C. Reilly), Nova, meanwhile, was originally expected to appear in Infinity war and Endgame.

To build your origin story, the film Nova will have to return to the events ofInfinity War, or Thanos, by seeking to acquire the Power Stone, then under the protection of Nova Corps, killed all members as well as half of the population of Xandar. Concretely, this means that phase V of Marvel cinematic universe cannot escape Thanos. It will be necessary to build on this basis, and why not, to see it again on the screen. Since Nova draws its origin story directly from the genocide committed by the Mad Titan.

Thanos played a particularly important role in the history of MCU, but since this universe now deals with other concepts (like the multiverse) and introduces new characters, it would be redundant or even confusing to return to Thanos in the near future, whatever the need. With a little luck, if the film Nova really must take place, Thanos and Avengers: Infinity War will only be there to build and explain this specific part of Nova’s story, before moving on to new, as yet unknown elements to explore a character as anticipated as Nova.
