Martorell eighth in elimination; Bald, twelfth in scratch

The Spanish track cycling team began its journey on Tuesday in the Grenchen Europeans (Switzerland) with the eighth place of Erik Martorell in the elimination test and the twelfth of Tania Calvo in the women’s scratch.

The Catalan Erik Martorell finished eighth in an elimination won by Russian Sergei Rostovtsev, Bronze medalist last year in Plovdiv and who finished ahead of Portuguese Joao Matias and Frenchman Thomas Boudat, who in 2014 was omnium world champion and silver in the 2014 European scoring race in Cali (Colombia).

In the women’s scratch, Tania Calvo from Vitoria was twelfth. British super champion Katie Archibald won, accompanied on the podium by French Valentine Fortin and Polish Daria Pikulik. Archibald, 27, expands his long track record, which includes two Olympic golds, three world titles and fifteen continental titles. This Tuesday is the first he achieves scratch.

This Wednesday they compete Helena Casas in female individual speed, Alejandro Martínez and Ekain Jiménez in the qualifying of the kilometer against the clock, Sebastian Mora in the score and Eukene Larrarte in elimination.
