Martinique: anti-vaccine doctors subject to sanction

Martinique doctors who publicly express an opinion against vaccines may face disciplinary sanction, warned the departmental council of the island’s medical order. The target cases will be those that do not respect the ethical code.

This sanction could go “from the warning to radiation,” said the president of the order’s council on Monday, reports AFP. The institution will rely on the texts of the public health code, to carry out its approach and sanction those who “fail to comply with the code of ethics.”

The threat was made in a very complicated context in Martinique, where only 20% of the population is vaccinated (as in Guadeloupe). The violence of the fourth coronavirus wave in the West Indies, however, pushed more people to the centers, whose attendance increased. The number of vaccinated per day has increased from 500 to 1,000, “with patients expressing some concern about the health disaster and the many deaths registered in Martinique,” analyzed François Roch, president of the medical committee of the establishment at the CHU.

However, the trend is starting to decline slightly again. “We will have to pick up the pace,” he said. There is no other solution that has proven its worth, “apart from vaccination,” the doctors insisted.

“Let people choose if necessary, but you should not discredit the doctor’s words. Because we are witnessing a war for and against. And that is not healthy. Doctors must have only one word, “added the president of the order.

The intervention of the council of the order reinforced the declaration of 600 doctors and scientists from Overseas who signed a platform calling for vaccination. Most of the medical staff of the CHU of Martinique, on the front lines of this epidemic, have already been vaccinated.
