Another weekend with a double presence on the podium for Jorge Martin. Third in the Mugello sprint and second in the race on Sunday to close a wonderful Italian GP that lifted him to third place overall. It was normal for the man from Madrid to be smiling from ear to ear…
“We are finding that regularity that I was looking for. I have many good results in a row. The only bad moment was the race in Austin, the rest I’m being super solid and very fast. I had marked this track as one of the difficult ones and I managed to come within a second of the first”, The man from Prima Pramac began by saying to the press who went to Mugello, and added when asked if he had improved compared to Saturday that “yes, what happens is that the pace has been slower because it was much hotter. But I have taken a small step, we have made a change in the race that has helped me and we have improved at a point that will be positive for Germany”.
Regarding his third place overall in the World Championship, 24 points behind Pecco and only three behind Bezzecchi, he says: “It’s still too early, I’m going race by race, and I think that at the end of the year there are circuits that are much better suited to my style and I will be able to recover points”.
When asked about what Pecco has that him, he launches a notice for sailors: “The circuit, the country… but I’ll be there soon.”
Regarding the commitment to the soft rear tire, he assures that “it is not easy to make decisions against the rule. Ducati normally gives you the idea that they have, but the thing is that I didn’t feel good at all with the medium tire over the weekend; and I have also tried in the warm up, but it has been impossible. I didn’t have the rhythm with that rubber. So I put on the soft one, which went well yesterday, I managed it from the start and the moment I was closest to Pecco was when the rubber ran out. And from there, and survival, Johann was catching me, and I gave everything on track. I am happy because it has not been an easy weekend, but I took a second place that tastes like glory on a track where it was very difficult for me last year, it had also been difficult for me in Moto2 and I get rid of that bad taste of mouth”.
And about Pecco’s dominance: “I always listen to what they tell me, but today I listened to my instinct and I think it gave me what I needed. Because Pecco today was practically invincible Unless I made a mistake and finished very close to him, when I finished 13th last year”.
