Martín: “Pole gives more satisfaction than the record”

Fourth pole of the season for Jorge Martín, and with a new track record at Sepang.

-Did you think you could do that time?

-I knew I could do 57, but not in this heat. The rest have also suffered and I have had a plus to be better than the rest. I’m happier with the pace than with the lap.

-Do you know better the pole or the record?

-Doing the pole is what really gives you satisfaction. Many times I have fallen below the record and I have not achieved pole position, because someone else has lowered the time. Making pole is what he knows best.

-What must be done to correct the race in Australia and get more out of pole than the eighth from there starting first?

-Analyzing data, there I used up too much of the front wheel and I didn’t have that grip when braking that others had, so I couldn’t stop the bike and I couldn’t overtake. There was the mistake, but we learn from mistakes and we will be more competitive for next year.

-The pole gives you half life for the race?

Going out in front is going to help me a lot. I haven’t looked very well at how the rest comes out. Bezzecchi and Bastianini were very strong on the pace and those who are close to me on the grid will be at the beginning of the race. I’ll have to see consumption to know if I can push from the beginning or if I have to save a lot as has happened to me in other races.

-How is the grip in the wet on this track?

-Yesterday wasn’t great. It is true that there was little water, which is usually worse. In extreme water it’s not bad, but here it dries quickly and we can start in water and then it dries up.

-Did you consciously put Aleix at your wheel?

-I was aware, because I had no other option. We haven’t talked about it. He squared off like this and just as Aleix was there, Mir, Marini and other riders were also there. When you feel good, you don’t care to throw and escape.
