Marseille: three years after the tragedy of rue d’Aubagne

During his visit to Marseille, President Macron is expected at the turn, especially on the issue of housing. Three years after the murderous collapse of two unsanitary buildings rue d’Aubagne, there are still 100,000 poorly housed in Marseille, according to the Collective of November 5.

Just reopened entirely to pedestrians, the rue d’Aubagne, martyr street of the Phocaean city, still bears the scars of the tragedy of November 2018. In these more than dilapidated buildings, there are still a few living there. This is the case with Soheir, which opens its door to us. For 42 years here, she has seen the situation worsen in the neighborhood.

“There is a lot of damage, look at the pipes. In addition, I am paralyzed, I cannot stand up, ”she explains.

At 68, Soheir lives off RSA. Unable to pay her charges, and threatened with expulsion, she shows us the insalubrity she suffers on a daily basis.

Almost three years after the collapse of the two buildings which claimed the lives of eight people, residents are still awaiting the implementation of the restructuring plan. According to the collective of November 5, 40,000 unworthy dwellings exist today in Marseille.
