Marseille Secures Provisional Ligue 1 Lead After 3-0 Brest Win

Marseille provisionally seized the lead in France’s top-tier football league Saturday with a decisive 3-0 home victory over Brest, putting immediate pressure on reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The win at the Vélodrome stadium brought Marseille’s point total to 25. This places them one point ahead of second-place Paris Saint-Germain, who are scheduled to play their match on Sunday.

Marseille also extended their lead over third-place Lens to three points. Lens currently has 22 points and will compete in its own fixture this round.

Goals from English international Angel Gomes, fellow Englishman Mason Greenwood, and Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang secured the commanding victory for Marseille.

Gomes opened the scoring in the 25th minute, capitalizing on a significant error by Brest goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki.

Eight minutes later, Greenwood doubled Marseille’s advantage from the penalty spot.

Aubameyang sealed the 3-0 scoreline in the 81st minute with a well-taken goal. This final strike underscored Marseille’s superiority throughout the match.

The remaining fixtures for the 12th matchday include Paris Saint-Germain facing Lyon, currently sixth with 20 points, and Lens playing fifth-place Monaco, also with 20 points.
