Marseille is saved in the Cup

Olympique de Marseille qualified for the round of 32 of the French Cup, but not before getting a scare, after beating modest Hyères 2-0. Those from Tudor, launched in Ligue 1 due to a good streak, played 75 minutes with one less player for the early expulsion of Eric Bailly. However, the superiority of his squad prevented a setback against a clearly inferior rival. Alexis Sánchez, from Panenka, scored 0-1 and Bamba Dieng, in the second half, certified the pass to the next round.

It was presented, a priori, a quiet afternoon for Marseille. Hyères, from the French fourth division, did not seem like an opponent capable of putting him in difficulties in the 90 minutes. Nevertheless, Eric Bailly saw to it that the nerves settled in those of Tudor. The center-back, a former Villarreal player, embedded his studs into N’Diaye’s chest, who went directly to the hospital with breathing difficulties. As expected, the referee sent off the defender and Marseille had to play 75 minutes with one less player.

Nevertheless, the numerical inferiority did not affect the historic Frenchman, who began to spin several dangerous plays until the penalty that Alexis converted. Ünder, the smartest in the class, caused a penalty after a great cross from Guendouzi and the Chilean did not forgive from eleven meters. Hyères, lethargic despite being with one more player, did not react before the break.

The second half, however, began with a much more daring Hyères who was soon to win the hearts of the Marseille fans with two arrivals. The first, with a shot from Zefraoui on the front that went just touching the post. And, the second, with an extraordinary shot, also from the front, from Sahnoune that crashed into the wood. Dieng, the Marseille striker, made it 0-2 after a great pass from Ünder, but the Senegalese left his rival alive.

The Senegalese did not forgive on the second chance he had, after taking advantage of an extraordinary pass from Guendouzi into space and beating the rival goalkeeper with a cold blood unbecoming of a player of his age. Marseille tied the result and qualified for the round of 16 of the French Cup.

Settlement of Monaco, Nice and Clermont

Clermont, ranked ninth in the First Division, was surpassed by a regional club like Strasbourg Koenigshoffen: the penalties, sentenced. Later, also from eleven meters and after letting a two-goal advantage slip through the successes of Maghnes Akliouche and Wissam Ben Yedder, Monaco said goodbye after falling with Rodez, from Ligue 2. The mistakes made by Aleksandr Golovin and Soungountou Magassa in their shots put an end to the adventure of the team led by Philippe Clement. And the last of the first to leave the competition was Nice.
