The 2025 World Cup MotoGP season is shaping up to be a notable year for the Márquez family. Not only could Marc Márquez potentially achieve great results with the Ducati GP25, but his brother Álex is also showing promising performance. Álex has dominated two out of three tests and is more confident than ever since joining the class in 2020.
The first conclusion from the SEPANG test is that the Ducati GP24 motorcycle is still a strong contender, having been the champion with Jorge Martín and runner-up with Pecco Bagnaia in 2024. Despite innovations introduced by other factories, the Ducati GP24 remains a top choice. Álex Márquez achieved the best lap time, just a tenth and a half of the record, and had the best rhythm in Malaysia. He expressed satisfaction with his new machine, stating, “The motorcycle is really good, I am very satisfied, we have been able to adjust everything.”
Álex Márquez ended the 2024 season on a positive note after initially struggling to adapt to the GP23. His brother Marc pointed out that Álex is enjoying himself but should not put too much pressure on himself, as that is for the official team riders. Other riders, such as Franky Morbidelli, are also impressed with the Desmosedici and seem reborn. Morbidelli stated, “We end in the best way, I am very happy, we will give you many satisfactions this year.”
At Honda, there is a sense of happiness and progress. Riders Joan Mir and Johann Zarco have shown promising results, and the team is optimistic about their chances. The input of Romano Albesian, who brought ideas from Aprilia, has been notable, particularly in aerodynamics. Albesian stated, “We have found a good base to begin with, the general performance is good; we can develop the motorcycle little by little, we are there.” Joan Mir was seen with a sling, but the team’s overall mood is positive, indicating that they are on the right track.
