Mark Wood got a contract worth crores from Lucknow in the IPL auction, know what his reaction was

England fast bowler Mark Wood was bought by Lucknow Super Giants at the 2022 Indian Premier League auction. Lucknow bought him for Rs 7.50 crore and included him in their squad. But Wood says getting a contract in the IPL is like playing a computer game like Football Manager, which isn’t quite as real.

“When the final amount was confirmed, Sarah asked how much it would be in pounds – she may have to freeze all the accounts so the amount doesn’t disappear,” Wood told The Guardian.

“But we were happy,” he said. It was quite a strange experience. It feels like a computer game, it doesn’t feel real, like transfers to a football manager, but when the contract is awarded, it’s also very real.

Wood, 32, who withdrew from the auction last year to spend more time with family, recalled the atmosphere in her home during the auction. Wood said: “We were going out the weekend for the wedding anniversary which I couldn’t participate in because I was in Australia, but it all stopped when the IPL auctioneers on stage got sick and we left. The show was delayed.

Veteran fast bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad have been dropped from the England squad for next month’s three-Test series against the West Indies and Wood said he was “shocked” to learn the two were dropped. “I didn’t expect this to happen,” he said. It would be weird if these two weren’t on tour, it would be a first for me. Even when he was injured, he was part of the group.
