It’s no secret to anyone that music not only accompanies our lives, but also has the power to change the world and humanity. Therefore, knowing the enormous potential this art has to do good for others, Mark Knopfler decided to bring together a number of legendary guitarists by releasing a song to do his part against cancer..

Definitely, Knopfler is one of the artists who cares most about creating something important or changing something with his songs.. So it shouldn’t surprise us that the former singer and leader of Dire Straits has gathered around him an army of guitar heroes and more release a very special song with which they want to support young people who are fighting deadly diseases.

Mark Knopfler has brought together pure guitar legends for a very special purpose

It turns out that The British guitarist announced with great fanfare the lineup of Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes, a supergroup that reunited to release a new version of “Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero.” an instrumental song he released in 1983 that was originally written for the film Local hero and starring Burt Lancaster. The song marked Knopfler’s first success as a film composer and earned him a BAFTA nomination.

And why are they going to release a remake of this great song? well then With this cover Knopfler wants to help the Teenage Cancer Trust, the charity that supports and cares for young people aged 13 to 24 living with cancer in the UK. And to collect as much wool as possible, Mark recruited true heroes and legends from around the world to band together for this good cause.

To give you an idea, names like Bruce Springsteen, Brian May, Slash, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Ronnie Wood, Joan Jett, Nile Rogers, Joe Bonamassa, Sheryl Crow, Peter Frampton, Steve Lukather and Tom Morello… the way you read it, pure guitar heavyweight.

As if this alignment wasn’t enough, Knopfler also brought together Alex Liveson, Steve Vai, Joe Walsh, Keith Urban and Andy Taylor. However, what catches our attention is that dApparently Jeff Beck is one of the guitariststook part in this project, it was his last recording before he died on January 10, 2023.

To round out this epic line-up of great musicians, Mark Knopfler also played Sting on bass, Roger Daltrey on harmonica and Zak Starkey on drums.. As you will see, Next March 15th we can listen to this great song (whose profits go to the Teenage Cancer Trust), which will mark a before and after in the history of the music industry without fear of being wrong.
