Through a message on Twitter, the children of the 87-year-old writer revealed the state of their father’s health, although they did not give many details. Mario Vargas Llosa has been hospitalized since Saturday.

Just a few weeks ago the writer was in his native country, Peru, where he carried out some private activities in which he was accompanied by his three children: Álvaro, Gonzalo and Morgana, as well as his ex-wife Patricio Llosa.
In April 2022, Mario Vargas Llosa was hospitalized after testing positive for covid-19 and being considered a risk patient due to his advanced age. A few days later the writer was discharged and resumed his life.
“It was an unpleasant experience. My legs began to feel very cold and I began to lose my breath, to drown, to breathe with great difficulty,” said Mario Vargas Llosa shortly after leaving the hospital.
Until now, more details of the writer’s state of health and when he could be discharged are unknown.
Vargas Llosa, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2010, is one of the most prominent and prolific exponents of the Latin American literature boom of the 1960s.
