The Madrid lawyer Marina Martín (AD Marathon) and the cancer researcher Sladjana Zagorac, who crossed the finish line hand in hand with a time of 24:38have been declared winners of the Madrid Women’s Race in front of 30,000 participants in the most populous women’s event in Europewhich dyed the center of the capital pink (the color of the official shirt).
After traveling the 7.2 kilometers between Calle de Serrano and Paseo de Camoens, the winners crossed the finish line in the same second, and minutes later the organization decided to declare Zagorac the winner as well, researcher at the National Cancer Research Center. The third classified, Laura Izquierdo, did it with a time of 25:13 together with Susana Sánchez-Álamo. Six seconds later, the winner of the previous edition came fourthMadrid’s Tamara Sanfabio.
Among the participants was also an illustrious swimmer, the Olympic champion and Spanish flag bearer at the Tokyo 2020 Games, Mireia Belmonte who, as ambassador of Banco Santander, participated as godmother, minutes before departure, in the display of a pink ribbon 50 meters long and 17 wide, which covered the heads of the runners in support of the fight against breast cancer.
For the first time since 2019, the race was not subject to any restrictions derived from the pandemicso that the participants, all equipped with number 016, which is the helpline for victims of gender-based violence, they were able to travel freelyfrom 9 o’clock, running or walking.
Solidarity continues, the circuit continues
Among the pink tide were also the components of the project ‘Solidarity slippers’which promotes inclusion through sport, and the ‘Hope Project’, which are women victims of sexual and labor exploitation.
