Former US Open champion Marin Cilic of Croatia defeated Tommy Paul of America 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 to reach the semifinals of Adelaide’s second international tennis tournament. Fourth seed Cilic has won four of five games this year. At the same time, last week, Cilic reached the semi-finals of the Adelaide International in which he was defeated by Karen Khachanov of Russia.
In the women’s section, third-seeded Coco Go of the United States defeated Anna Konju of Croatia 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals. At the Sydney Tennis Classic, fourth-seeded Estonian Annette Kontavet won the first set of the quarterfinals against Tunisia’s Ons Jabour when Jabour had to leave the court due to a groin injury. Kontavet will now face third-seeded Barbora Krejcikova, who defeated France’s Caroline Garcia 6-0, 6-2. In the men’s section, top seed Aslan Karatsev defeated fifth seed Lorenzo Sonego 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
