Margot decides with a pinch-hit home run for the Rays

Manuel Margot hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning, and the Tampa Bay Rays rallied to beat the Seattle Mariners 8-7 on Friday night.

Tampa Bay scored its seventh straight win on the road.

Mariners pinch-hitter Jarred Kelenic put them up 6-5 in the eighth inning with a two-run homer. However, the Rays attacked reliever Paul Sewald (0-1) with a pair of singles, by Randy Arozarena and Brandon Lowe, with one out in the ninth inning.

Sewald then allowed Margot’s first home run of the season, to left-center field. In seven appearances, Sewald had not allowed a run.

Eight times, Margot has hit the comeback hit. She has done it twice this week, after giving Tampa Bay a win over Oakland on Wednesday.

Arozarena had four hits, scored twice and drove in one run. His compatriot Yandy Díaz added two hits with one scored and one RBI.

The victory went to Ryan Thompson.

For the Rays, the Cubans Díaz 5-2 with a run scored and an RBI, Arozarena 5-4 with two runs scored. Dominicans Wander Franco 4-1 with a run scored and an RBI, Harold Ramírez 4-1 with an RBI, Margot 1-1 with a run scored and three RBIs, Francisco Mejía 4-3 with a run scored.

For the Mariners, the Venezuelans Eugenio Suárez 3-2 with three runs scored and three produced, Luis Torrens 2-0. The Dominican Julio Rodríguez 4-2 with a run scored.
