The MareNostrum5 supercomputer is 23 times more powerful than its predecessor, positioning Spain among the leading European countries in high-performance computing for specific purposes.

Two powerful partitions

It is a heterogeneous machine that combines two very different systems: one All-purpose partitiondedicated to classical computer science, and a accelerated partitiondesigned to push the boundaries of knowledge in artificial intelligence.

Both systems are among the 20 most powerful supercomputers in the world 19th and 8th place respectivelyThis makes the BSC the only supercomputing center in Europe with two entries in the top 20 of the so-called LINPACK ranking, which classifies the 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world.

The distribution will depend on the investments of the participating States and the EuroHPC JU, which will organize calls at European level to gain access to 50% of the available time, while the rest will be distributed between Spain, Turkey and Portugal.

Integration with quantum computers
