Marc Márquez: “The goal is to fight for the title”

The Spanish pilot Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) assured this Tuesday that he worked on the physical part throughout the winter to try to reach the first race of the championship in Portugal 100%, at the same time that he assured that he has to face the season “with the aim of fighting for a title” and assured that he was “excited” with the first contact in the official test of MotoGP in the International Circuit of sepang.

“We are the Repsol Honda Team, I am Marc Márquez. We have to face the preseason and the season with the aim of fighting for a title. Then during the races we will see and be realistic about where we are, but for now we have to try to fight and be prepared as best as possible, thinking about who is fastest and being close to the fastest, this is the number one objective. One test left in Portimão and there is still room for improvement,” said the pilot in statements to the media during the centenary gala of the RFME.

Even so, the one from Cervera preferred to be cautious, although many people put him among the favourites. “Obviously many people put me among the favorites because of my record, but if you analyze the last two years and how the last year ended, well I am not among the favourites. But my goal is the same every year. I have to fight for the places in front and then we will see if it is possible or not ”, he stressed.

In this sense, he explained that he worked all winter on the physical part and that he hopes to reach the first race at “100%”. “I said that we had to improve in two aspects, first in the physical part and then on the bike to try to fight for the World Cup, I’m not saying win anymore. This winter I have been working hard on my physique. I have been trying to take care of him and pamper him to evolve and we still have a month and a half left for the first race, which is where I want to be 100% physically ”, he added.

Regarding the work of Repsol Honda, the Catalan was “excited” and highlighted the “structural change” and the “reaction” of his team. “There has been a structural change within HRC. First you have to make the change and then the fruits are more long-term, but there is a reaction, there are changes. I am excited, I am confident with Honda, with the changes that are being made and with the tests that we have done. There have been little steps, yes, we are still far away, too, but we are closer than four months ago, ”he said.
