Marc Márquez faces stiff penalty for tire irregularities in high-stakes racing competition

Motorcycling: Marquez Penalized at Assen GP, Drops to 10th Place

Rider Called to Testify Before Stewards

Spanish rider Marc Márquez was called to testify before the stewards following his MotoGP Grand Prix at Assen, resulting in a prolonged wait before speaking with the Race Directorate.

Data Does Not Convince Judges

Márquez’s team, Gresini, presented data to the judges, but it did not persuade them. As a result, a 16-second penalty was imposed, added to his final time, citing excessively low tire pressure.

Significant Consequences

The penalty resulted in Márquez dropping from his initial fourth-place finish to tenth place, resulting in a loss of seven points. This setback now puts him 58 points behind the leader, Jorge Martín.
