Marc Machin sentenced to 16 years imprisonment for rape at gunpoint

Marc Machin was sentenced this Thursday, October 14 by the Paris Assize Court to sixteen years of criminal imprisonment for the rape of a young woman under the threat of a weapon in 2018.

The court attached this sentence to an eight-year safety period and ordered a socio-judicial follow-up measure for five years. Marc Machin was also ordered to pay 25,000 euros in damages to the victim.

In the box, he seemed to blame the sentence, then let out a few tears.

“My client is relieved that this is over,” said the lawyer for the civil party, Maître Audrey Dufau. The latter, then 22 years old, had denounced on April 21, 2018 to the police the rape of which she had been the victim that same morning in a Parisian apartment by a hooded man who threatened her with a kitchen knife, before the force them to erase the traces of the crime and to steal their credit card. Confused by his DNA, Marc Machin had ended up acknowledging the facts in police custody.

The Pont de Neuilly affair in the background

If he is so much in the media, it is because Marc Machin is known to have wrongly spent six and a half years in prison for the Pont de Neuilly affair.

Incarcerated in this case in 2001 at the age of 19, he was sentenced three years later to eighteen years in prison for the stabbing murder of Marie-Agnès Bedot, a sentence confirmed on appeal.

But in March 2008, a 33-year-old homeless man, David Sagno, blamed himself for the murder and that of another woman at the same location in 2002, which led to the release of Marc Machin.

In 2012, the latter ended up being acquitted at the end of his review trial, becoming the eighth person in France since World War II to be exonerated at the end of such a procedure.

Since his release from prison in 2008, Marc Machin has accumulated convictions, a total of fifteen, some of which have resulted in him being reincarcerated.
