Mandy Teefey Reacts to Selena Gomez’s Dream Wedding Photos

When you picture a proud mother on her daughter’s wedding day, you might imagine tears of joy and heartfelt embraces. For Mandy Teefey, Selena Gomez’s mom, that moment came with a sweet touch of nostalgia. Teefey, who is 49, recently shared her feelings on Instagram, reposting the stunning official wedding photos of her eldest daughter.

"Sunday Love," Teefey simply wrote on September 28, letting the images speak volumes. To add an extra layer of emotion, she chose Louis Armstrong’s classic tune, "La Vie En Rose," as the soundtrack to her post. Long-time fans might remember this very song from Selena Gomez’s 2011 movie, Monte Carlo. It’s a lovely callback that shows the deep connection between mother and daughter.

Selena, 33, married Benny Blanco, 37, on Saturday, September 27. The happy couple waited a few hours before sharing their joy with the world through social media. The Only Murders in the Building star looked breathtaking in a custom Ralph Lauren halter wedding gown. Blanco, her new husband, chose a timeless black tuxedo. Photographer Petra Collins captured their special day in beautiful pictures.

This wasn’t just any wedding; it was quite the star-studded affair. According to reports from a prominent entertainment news outlet, this information was first broken by Us Weekly, which mentioned that the guest list was full of famous faces. An insider had shared earlier in the week that Mindy Weiss, a renowned celebrity event planner, organized the huge, top-notch event. Weiss has a reputation for planning grand parties for big names like the Kardashians, Justin Bieber, and Demi Lovato.

While many famous friends were there to celebrate, Selena and Benny’s families were also surely present. Selena is the daughter of Mandy Teefey and Ricardo Gomez. Mandy later remarried Brian Teefey and they have a 12-year-old daughter named Gracie, who is Selena’s half-sister.

Selena and Mandy share a very close bond. Mandy raised Selena mostly as a single mother. Selena once spoke about her childhood feelings during an E! Entertainment special in June 2011. She recalled being angry with her mom because she desperately wanted her parents to be together. "I still feel so bad about that," Selena shared. She also recognized the huge responsibility her mother took on. "Having me at 16 must have been a big responsibility," Selena said. "My mother left everything for me and had, like, three jobs. She supported me, sacrificed her life for me."

As Selena pursued her dreams in acting and singing, Mandy was always her biggest supporter. Their bond even extended into business when they co-founded Wondermind in 2022, an organization focused on mental health.

However, their relationship faced tough times too. During Selena’s struggles with mental health, which included entering a psychiatric facility for treatment in 2018, their bond briefly fractured. Mandy opened up about this difficult period in Selena’s 2022 documentary, My Mind and Me. "They called me and wanted to know what my daughter was doing in the hospital with a nervous breakdown," Mandy recalled. "She didn’t want anything to do with me. I was afraid she was going to die." She described the immense challenge of trying to help and then having to trust that Selena would be okay each day. "It’s a miracle she came out," Mandy said, "but there’s always the fear that it will happen again, and that hurt us terribly."

After being part of the documentary, Mandy decided she wouldn’t watch the final version herself. She explained her reasons on a 2022 episode of the "On Purpose With Jay Shetty" podcast. "The reason is because we lived part of that together," she stated. "We went through that, we found healing, and we’ve moved past some of it." Mandy admitted that even knowing Selena went through it, as a mother, it would still affect her deeply. "It’s going to make my stomach hurt, it’s going to put me in that mindset, and I’m going to wish I could go and protect her," she added, showing her unwavering maternal love and protective spirit.
