Manchester United in Advanced Talks for Antwerp Goalkeeper Senne Lammens

Lammens is a possibility for the Red Devils' goal

There’s a buzz around Manchester United’s ongoing search for a new goalkeeper. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that the Red Devils are now deep in talks. Their target is Senne Lammens, a promising Belgian keeper currently with Antwerp. Negotiations are said to be quite advanced.

It’s a bit of a funny twist, really. After so many names floated around and endless speculation, the team led by the Portuguese coach has come full circle. They’ve returned to a player they actually showed serious interest in back in January of this year. It seems some targets just stick with you.

We first reported on this interest on January 2nd. At that time, the same issues that face the team’s goalkeepers now were already clear. It highlighted the club’s persistent needs in that area.

Back then, the news noted the challenges at Old Trafford. “It’s become clear that Andre Onana hasn’t been at his best level in the Manchester United goal. And it’s understood that number two Altay Bayindir has also shown weaknesses when called upon. A crisis in the Old Trafford goal, which, according to the English press, is already being evaluated by Ruben Amorim and the club’s board. The country’s press highlights that the Red Devils’ scouting department has been evaluating the performances of young Belgian Senne Lammens, 22 years old, serving Antwerp, with the goal of recruiting him in this transfer window,” read our news report.

Now, several months later, the English club is back focusing on that same target. Lammens first made his mark in football at Club Brugge. He spent all his youth development there. For the 2023/24 season, he moved to Antwerp and has really shown off his skills. He’s the starting goalkeeper for Belgium’s U21 team and has openly spoken about his desire to reach the senior national team.

“It’s good to be praised, but I keep my feet on the ground,” he told his fellow Belgians at ‘Nieuwsblad’. “Of course, one day I want to follow the path of other goalkeepers, like Mignolet, Butez, Courtois, and Preud’homme.” It’s clear the young man has big dreams and strong role models.

According to the Transfermarkt website, the player is currently valued at 9 million euros. This renewed push shows how serious the club is about securing a new talent between the posts.
