Man who shot aboard a moped in New York charged with murder

A man who this Saturday killed one person and injured three others during a tour in which he randomly shot passersby in New York was identified this Sunday as Thomas Abreu and charged with murder.

Aboard a moped, Abreu, 25 years old and who was arrested this Saturday, is the suspect in killing an 86-year-old man and injuring 3 others in Queens and Brooklyn.

The detainee has been charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and six counts of criminal possession of a weapon, according to authorities.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) detailed that Abreu fired randomly in six different places from Richmond Hill, Queens, to Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, during the period of half an hour.

A 21-year-old Hispanic man was the first to be hit by bullets, shot in the shoulder, and was taken to a hospital without his life being in danger, according to authorities.

An 86-year-old man of Asian origin was later shot in the back and died as a result of his injuries.

The gunman then shot another Hispanic man, 44, that he was hit in the face, and just a minute later he shot another man, also Hispanic. This last victim, aged 63, received a shoulder injury.

In addition, the suspect opened fire against a group of people who were in the street, without hitting any of them.

When arresting the suspect, agents recovered a 9-millimeter weapon, a magazine, and ammunition.
