Man Utd Coach Amorim: ‘Remember Last Year’s Suffering’

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim marked his first anniversary at the club with a candid reflection on past struggles and a cautious outlook for future control, even as he navigates immediate squad challenges.

Amorim described his initial arrival as rapid, immediately noting a “different atmosphere” at what he considered “the best league and the best club in the world.” Despite recent improvements, he stated the team remains in a critical state, metaphorically “still in the ICU.”

“Everything happened very quickly,” Amorim said, reflecting on his tenure. “We have evolved, we cannot forget the good things we have done in recent games. However, we also have to remember how much we suffered last year.”

He expressed a desire for the team to achieve “more control and dominance of the game” moving forward.

The Portuguese coach now prepares his squad for a Monday match against Everton at Old Trafford. He downplayed the significance of league standings in a highly competitive league.

“In this league, everything is so close that the standings end up being irrelevant,” Amorim stated. “Those who know our history know that any game is an unknown. You never know when you’re going to face a difficult game.”

Amorim confirmed that player Sesko will be sidelined for several weeks due to injury.

Additionally, he indicated efforts to delay the release of three key players—Mazraoui, Diallo, and Mbeumo—who are slated to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The upcoming match against Everton marks exactly one year since Amorim’s tenure began with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich at Portman Road.

Everton currently trails Manchester United by three points, holding 15 points to United’s 18.
