A 47-year-old man was detained on Friday afternoon in the neighborhood known as The Bleached, as part of an operation conducted by authorities. The individual has a history of criminal activity, having been previously convicted of crimes related to internal firearms trafficking, receipt of stolen goods, and money laundering. These convictions were made under a regime of real reiteration, which implies a pattern of repeated offenses.
The man has been sentenced to three years and seven months in prison, with a reduction in his sentence due to time already served in detention. Additionally, he is required to pay for his food, clothing, and accommodation while in prison. The Departmental Anti-Drug Brigade of Montevideo led the operation, aiming to dismantle an organization involved in the import and distribution of cocaine and base paste in the city.
During the operation, authorities searched two apartments and seized significant items, including $977,647, a stolen pistol, ammunition, and a cell phone from one of the apartments. The other apartment yielded no findings. It is notable that the convicted individual has a prior criminal record, dating back to December 2016, for association to commit a crime.
In a separate procedure, police visited a house on Ildefonso GarcÃa Street in Maroñas, where they seized a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, its documents, an aquatic motorcycle, a DVR, and $3,650 in cash. Following chemical tests on the vehicle, it was discovered that the car had been used to transport drugs, which were hidden in a compartment under the steering wheel.
The 2nd shift narcotics prosecutor, Stella Llorente, has ordered further investigation, including driving and expert tests on the seized weapon, vehicle, and cell phone, to gather more evidence and build a stronger case against those involved in the drug trafficking organization.
